The King of Greed deck, with 6 different card types.

During a run, the player will encounter a variety of cards (9 per king) to build their kingdom. New cards are acquired after every battle, with the player being given a choice of 3 cards each year. The player gets to choose a card from whichever king the previous battle was against. If the player lost the battle, they are given a choice from their own deck instead. Cards can also be bought from the Merchant or summoned with certain cards and decrees.

There are 6 different card types, although bases are essentially troops or buildings, just with special properties.

Troop cards are a placeable unit card type. Troops consist of mobile units that move to the battlefield during battle. Troop cards can be buffed by Enchantments and some Building cards in the game. Troop cards can be leveled up to level 3.

Building icon.png Buildings

Building cards are a static, placeable card type. Buildings are usually used as support plots for the kingdom, granting a variety of buffs to adjacent or specific types of plot. Buildings can provide immediate or yearly buffs. Some special buildings (like the Demon's Altar) act as unit summoning plots. Building cards can be leveled up to level 3.

Enchantment icon.png Enchantments

Enchantments are a consumable card type that modify Troop cards. Enchantments have no stack limit.

Tomes are a consumable card type that have special effects. Tomes have a large variety of effects. See Cards for more information.

Towers are placeable card type which attack from a distance. Towers cannot be attacked or destroyed. They also can't receive Enchantments. However, like Troops, some Buildings and Decrees can improve a tower's stats. Tower cards can be leveled up to level 3.

Base cards are the only card type that cannot be obtained by different Kings. Each King has a unique base card, and all of them are either troops or towers, but with special gameplay mechanics.. A game is always started by placing your Base card, and a kingdom can only have one Base plot. Base cards can be leveled up to level 3, but this limit can be increased with Perks.
