The Mercenary is a Melee Troop under the King of Greed. The Mercenary is unique in that their unit count is always reset at the end of a given year before going into battle, while their other stats (Health, Attack, Attack Speed) still persist.

Tips:
- Putting a mercenary adjacent to a Farm is detrimental, as any added units will be fired and reset to their expected unit count before the wave begins. The same goes for the Procreate enchantment.
- This does however mean that the Mercenary is a prime target for a Mangler adjacency, as there will always be units it can pull from to continue building it's damage, assuming you keep a minimum amount of gold for the tower to hire troops from. (The minimum amount is 15 * the level of the Mangler + 1)
- Using mercenaries as a primary melee or tank unit can be risky on years when a merchant arrives, as most cards cost a minimum of 15 coins without the Bargain decree, you'll always be trading at minimum one mercenary for another card. This however can be offset using the Peddler perk, to provide up to 3 free purchases.
- A maximum of 500 units are recruited each year
